Karen Dale Named One of Washington Business Journal’s 25 Women Who Mean Business

AmeriHealth Caritas DC leader blazing trail for women; a catalyst for change in the region

Karen Dale, market president of AmeriHealth Caritas District of Columbia, a mission-based Medicaid managed care plan serving more than 100,000 residents of the District of Columbia, has been named one of the Washington Business Journal’s 2017 Women Who Mean Business.

Dale is among 25 honorees being celebrated as the region’s most influential business women. The award is in recognition of her professional accomplishments and community investment.

Innovative strategies under Dale’s leadership include a workforce readiness initiative, Pathways to Work, that helps families in all corners of the District achieve financial stability. In May, the first cohort of Pathways to Work interns, a group of 13 African-American women, graduated from the program; 11 of them have found jobs, seven of whom now work for AmeriHealth Caritas District of Columbia.

“Investing in the communities we serve is essential to bringing economic opportunity and prosperity which in turn supports health equity,” said Dale. “I hope this award inspires the Pathways to Work participants and women at every stage of their careers to be bold and believe that they have what it takes to succeed in business.”

Dale is working tirelessly to usher in the next generation of managed care by going beyond the traditional role of an insurer to address issues such as food security, stable housing, community safety, resource accessibility, and education. These efforts, coupled with her work in co-authoring numerous health care solutions, help to create a stronger, safer, and ultimately healthier District of Columbia.
